Sign Ups – Sign ups take place at tryouts. Parents or coach need to sign in their players or children. Birth certificates or other paper work are not required.
Start Time - Plan to arrive 15 minutes or earlier before start time to sign in so the tryout can start on time.
Does My Child Need To Do Both Tryouts? – Preferably. If they miss the first and are ill and miss the second tryout, they will not have tried out and are not eligible for the team.
Attire/Safety – Game attire: shorts, t-shirt and shin guards covered by soccer socks. No jewelry. If the player wears eyeglasses, they must be sports safety glasses. Bring plenty of water and/or sports drink.
Tryouts are conducted by professional soccer trainers or coaches. They use standard tryout “best practices” that will focus on competitive play, including small sided scrimmages in small grids. Some soccer drills may be part of the tryout for warm up and non competitive skill assessment. Players are rated by the evaluators and the ratings determine team placement.
AGE PLACEMENT – Participants tryout for their age group. If we do not have enough players for an age bracket, players in the next younger age group will be considered for placement on the older team with the expectation that they have the ability to “play up” and may play in their correct age group the following fall season. We prefer to have players in their correct age group: It is better for their development and competitive level of the team. The numbers of tryout participants drive the roster size and placement of players.
Fall Season – The fall season consists of 2 practices per week and 10 games (5 at home/5 away). Players are expected to make all practices and all games. Players should not be playing other competitive fall sports. Some teams choose to play tournaments and/or cup competitions, which require additional time commitments.
Spring Season – same as fall season for practices and games. Players are expected to make at least one practice per week if they play another competitive spring sport. Some teams choose to play tournaments and/or cup competitions, which require additional time commitments.
Winter Session – some teams opt to play in indoor leagues and/or train in the winter. Travel teams use the MKHS gym in the winter on Sundays to prepare for the spring season.
COST INFORMATION – Cost is presented at tryouts as it is subject to change based on league, referee fees and other costs. We strive to keep our program affordable and, also, offer financial assistance if a family is experiencing a financial hardship. The seasonal fee, in addition to required discretionary costs, includes a professional trainer 2 nights a week and at 5 home games.
